Make It Right For A Better Ride
OHAI GUYS, quick question here:
HOW DO YOU TRAVEL TO SCHOOL/WORK/(INSERTDESTINATIONHERE) ?
Other than those who drives a car, im pretty sure you take the public transport yes?

I for one am rather satisfied with Singapore's transport system. i mean really, we have bus stops that are really really close to each other, MRT trains that take you from one corner of Singapore to another in less than an hour!

But, lets be honest here, our journeys on trains/buses are starting (or have been) rather uncomfortable yes? I mean, at times we can't even enter the trains/buses just because some people are too reluctant to move in, other times we have to deal with people who are just plain inconsiderate. Never mind about us young ones, sometimes seats are not given up to others who need them more, be it pregnant or elderly etc.
Examples of such happenings? pshh, welcome to http://www.stomp.com.sg ;)

So how can everybody's journey on buses/trains be made better?

1. See these signs? Yes, these seats were specially reserved for (hello captain obvious) the elderly, pregnant, injured, or one carrying a baby/toddler. because these people may need the seat more than we do. I understand that we may be tired from work or school at times but hey, we can always rest our feet anywhere we want once we're at home!

2. Move to the rear/middle of the bus/train. it'll allow other commuters to board as well. I know we may be worried about not getting out in time or the hassle of pushing our way out. just do it the way i do:

"EXCUSEMESORRY,EXCUSEEEE,EXCUSEME,SORRY ~ "

works every time. don't worry if you have u raise your voice a little, just don't say it in a harsh way. after all people can't get mad at you, you're being polite! it's better than:

"EH SIAM LA OI. I WANNA GET OUT LAH. SIAAAAAAMMMMM! ~ "

3. okay, if we do get a seat or if we're entering an empty bus/train, don't occupy both seats, one for your butt and another for your bag. it's alright, your bag isn't tired, other commuters are. so allow them to have a seat as well!

There are many other ways of being gracious & considerate commuters but going through all of them may make me sound like an old nagging auntie so yeah, you know what to do. ;)

ANYWAY, here are a couple of posters that you might see at MRT stations or Bus stops:

" He who respects will be respected."
This is one of my favorite posters as not only can this be applied when taking buses/trains, but EVERYWHERE.

here's another one of my personal favorites, especially applicable to students of all ages.

Plus, you've got to admit, that's a really good poem written by an 8-year old! *CLAPS*
